Updates:

At the five year mark (click to enlarge thumbnails). Even at 19 years old, he retains a beautiful physique and demeanor.

At three years, while in very light maintenance training only. At this point, I have just about maximized his natural athletic abilities. I do not push him further past what he is capable of giving, in order to preserve his longevity and friendship.

1.5 years into foundational retraining with adjunct therapies at Adaptive Development EQ. We see a horse that appears much more conformationally correct. The alignment of the hind and shoulder straightens, the horse’s hind and fore synchronize with musculature that has filled in with his correct education. Despite his very large size, we see that with gradual development he is able to achieve the strength and balance he requires to carry a rider with aplomb. Despite a longer side rein, he offers himself to the rider’s hand and gives more than is required.

(Click to enlarge smaller images.) Prior to this gelding’s work with Adaptive Development EQ. Note in the photo with rider, the right hind which he places too far medially underneath himself and the slight counter-bend at the shoulder. Both are indicators of compensatory locomotion due to lack of strength and balance under saddle. We also see a distinct absence of synchronization between hind and fore leg-motion (also compensatory.) Specifically, this horse does not activate the back, lift through the shoulder or reach for the hand in order to connect from hind to fore. This is a suspicion of weakness despite his relatively normal looking musculature, and is a suspicion further supported by the horse’s lack of topline development. Conformationally, a slight ewe neck is extant.
